How many syllables?
Syllable – a unit of pronunciation having one vocal sound.
“Water” has two syllables.
“Inferno” has three syllables.
You can check how many syllables a word has by putting a ball in your mouth. Each time the ball falls out when speaking a word, that is a syllable!
Silly balls (syllables) will drop out of the dog’s mouth if you can get her to say a word.
OR
You can put your hand under your chin. Each time you make a vowel sound your chin should drop.
