Krishna, who has had great influence over Indian thought, life, and culture, is worshipped as the eighth incarnation, or avatar, of the Hindu god Vishnu.

However, Krishna is also seen as a supreme god in his own right.

He is a considered to be a cosmic musician and the tune he plays on his transcendental flute is believed to be charged with cosmic energy.

Krishna is the most popular of Vishnu's avatars, closest to the heart of the Hindu masses. He was dark and extremely handsome – the word Krishna means 'black', and black has an air of mystery about it.

Most Hindus consider Krishna to be their leader, hero, protector, philosopher, teacher and friend.
