Judgement – Part of the belief about life after death: The Day of Judgement when God will judge the living and the dead
To remember the meaning of Judgement in Judaism, use the following mnemonic:
The judge meant (judgement) well, but when he said he wanted to judge the dead as well as the living in his court, he was asked to take early retirement.
Some Jews believe they will be judged as soon as they die. Others believe they will be judged by both God and the Messiah on the Day of Judgement, which is also known as Yawm ad-Din.
While some believe everyone will be resurrected on Judgement Day so that they can be judged, others think only those who are morally good will be resurrected.
In any event, Jews believe Judgement Day will not arrive until after the coming of the Messiah.
NOTE: In Judaism, Jesus is not regarded as the Messiah – they are awaiting the appearance of their own Messiah.
