Yom Kippur – The day of atonement; a day of repentance and fasting on the tenth day after Rosh Hashana, the holiest day of the Jewish year
(Pronounced yom ki-poor)
To remember the meaning of Yom Kippur in Judaism, use the following mnemonic:
We yomped across the moors. The kip was poor (Yom Kippur) because the tent was holey (most holy day) and I had to fast because I forgot the food.
