Traffic Congestion – Occurs when there is too great a volume of traffic for roads to cope with, so traffic jams form and traffic slows to a crawl
We all know what traffic congestion is, but what are the consequences?
Traffic jams can occur anywhere for a variety of reasons: for instance, an accident on a motorway, or roadworks that restrict traffic flow.
In urban areas, however, traffic jams are a regular occurrence due to the sheer volume of traffic at certain times.
One of the major drivers of traffic congestion and delays is the concentration of economic activity in and around major cities, which means heavy traffic as people travel to and from work, as well as large numbers of delivery vehicles.
Economic growth and social development increase mobility in urban areas and lead to increased use of private cars.
