What are time signatures?

What we, in maths, call fractions, musicians call 'time signatures'.

It's such a beautiful fraction. It's about time you put your signature (time signature) on the painting.

Time signatures are the 'fractions' at the beginning of each stave just after the treble clef and bass clef.
