Galvanometer
Learn the meaning of galvanometer, pronounced gal-van-om-ee-ta.
A galvanometer measures both the direction of the current and its magnitude in the circuit. (A positive reading on the galvanometer shows current travelling in one direction, and a negative reading shows it travelling in the other).
Use the following mnemonic to remember this:
I was galvanised into action. I wanted to meet her (galvanometer), I knew the direction, but I couldn't get past the current.
