Nerve – bundle of axons
A nerve is a bundle of axons (the long, thread-like extensions of neurone cells).
As the dentist entered with a bunch of axes (axons) a nerve was hit and the patient went through the ceiling.
Cross-section of a nerve, showing the bundle of axons that makes up the “multi-core cable”.
Multi-core cable
This living “multi-core cable” of axons provides a pathway for electrochemical impulses (signals) that carry sensory information to the central nervous system (CNS) and instructions from the CNS to muscles and glands.
