Help you understand what you a reading
Appeal to your senses with images, colours, shapes and use of different type styles
Get you to respond by reading, appreciating and maybe acting on the information provided
Help you to remember what you have read through emphasis (e.g., words in larger and/or bold type, quotes pulled out of main text and used as design elements). Excellent layout leads you through the page in a logical order, which also aids memory.
