Remembering the list of language features
There are lots of language features and it can be difficult to remember them all. However, they can be grouped under just four headings or types, which makes it much easier to recall them.
The headings are:
Pretending
Sound
Persuasion
Speech
Or PSPS
Imagine you are writing a list of language features, but you forget to include something, and have to put a PS (postscript) at the end, and then another PS because there’s another thing you’ve forgotten.
PS PS = PRETENDING SOUND PERSUASION SPEECH
Here’s another way of remembering that language features include Pretending, Sound, Persuasion and Speech:
At the start of the feature (language features) film an actor came on pretending to be a preacher. He said he heard the sound of heaven. The audience spoke and shouted (speech) for him to sit down, so the preacher tried persuasion.
PRETENDING
SOUND
PERSUASION
SPEECH
