Ionic bonding: a summary
Ionic bonding:
- is the transfer of electrons
- takes place between metals and non-metals
Ionic substances:
- exist as solids (crystals) at room temperature
- dissolve in water
- conduct electricity, when dissolved in water
Because salt (sodium chloride) is an ionic compound, when you come across ionic bonding, think of salt.
