1. Conjunction 1 – a junction between two parts of a sentence
At the Corner junction (conjunction), there was a butter shop (but), Handy Andy (and) a sewing shop (so) and a 'where it's at' shop (where).
Conjunction is like an intersection of roads (it even has a T in it, like some junctions!). It is a junction between two sentences.
Grandma held a glamour (grammar) party. Everyone went to the shops at the corner junction (conjunction) to get their glamour (grammar) and fancy dress clothes.
Examples of conjunctions include:
because, but, and, so, yet, for, nor, as, where, when
There are many more.
NOTE:
Some words can be more than one part of speech – for instance, “when” can be used as an adverb as well as a conjunction – but we are only concerned at this stage with their use as conjunctions.
