Andy Goldsworthy (born 1956) – Land artist, sculptor involving natural materials
(Pronounced an-dee gohld-s-wur-thee)
Andy - Used hands on the land
He used hands on the land (Andy) that gave a golden opportunity to show how worthy (Goldsworthy) natural materials are as an artistic medium.
Andy Goldsworthy rejected the indoor studio to work on his art outdoors. He creates his installations out of rocks, grass, mud, seeds, ice, branches or any natural material, creating site-specific sculptures. He photographs the finished piece, then leaves the project to be taken by the environment. Most of his projects are meant to be temporary.
Above is a representation of Andy Goldsworthy's work. He laid out on the ground the same type of leaf but in different stages of decay, hence the different colours. He started with nearly black leaves in the centre, then bright yellow ones, gradating slowly back to dark green. As you can see, it shows how dramatically nature can be displayed.
