She clad clay in bright risky (Clarice) patterns. Sales nearly dropped off the cliff (Cliff) but her ceramics went the other way and became extremely successful.

Clarice Cliff became famous for designing dishes and household ceramic (clay) ware with a bold art deco style. This is a style of the 1920s and 1930s characterised by precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and strong colours. They became items of art in their own right.
