Assemblage – Art that is made by assembling miscellaneous objects which are often scavenged by the artist
(Pronounced uh-sem-blij)
Note: Assemblage is like collage but three dimensional.
The artist assembled the objects to form an image (assemblage). The objects had been scavenged from the beach.
To create an assemblage piece, you will need to start with a shoebox lid, although depending on how deep you want it to be, you could also use the shoebox itself.
Next, find several objects to put in your box – how many you need will depend on their size, but around ten is a good number. These can be anything, from items that represent a hobby or passion to simply interestingly shaped junk. Bear in mind these will be glued and spray painted, so don't use anything you don't want to lose!
When arranging your items, try overlapping some or sticking them in or on another item, and use a glue gun to stick them down.
If there are any big empty gaps, try gluing some string around the floor of the shoebox lid to give it a little more texture.
Finally, take your assemblage outside and spray paint it all one colour, until everything has a smooth coating with no gaps.
A group project looks fantastic when all displayed together!
